Spyros started swimming at the age of six for the team Olympiakos Volou, in Volos, Greece. At fourteen he started playing water polo for the same team, progressing from the juniors to the senior first team. Olympiakos Volou competed in National Division D (in Greece the divisions are A1 - A2 - B - C - D) but within four years the team progressed to division B. In 2000 Spyros transferred to another team in Volos, OEA-NAB, competing in National Division B. In 2003-2004 OEA-NAB were promoted to National Division A2, which is semi-professional. Unfortunately the team only managed one season at this level due to financial and resource commitments. In 2006 Spyros joined Ealing soon after arriving in the UK. Spyros is a Phd student at Brunel University.
